The rigid inner metallic sleeve (fabricated from silver-anodized aluminum or steel alloy) serves as a mechanical compression stop. When a structural airframe bolt is threaded through the smooth internal bore, the sleeve absorbs the crushing force of the fastener torque. This allows the assembly to be held completely tight while leaving the outer rubber cushion free to flex and absorb vibration.
